Pen down the shortest story!
How short can a short story be? The shortest story ever written was only six words long!
Called flash fiction or sudden fiction, it’s a micro-narrative that packs a lot of emotion in a few words. The most famous example of the ‘shortest’ story is this piece by Ernest Hemingway:
“For sale: Baby shoes, never worn.”
‘Use short sentences’ was Ernest Hemingway’s first rule of writing. The American author is celebrated for changing the writing style in the 20th century as he applied a journalistic sense to his literary work. This was starkly different from the long winding sentences and page-long paragraphs of the 18th and 19th centuries. As we see the digital age unfold before our eyes, it’s evident how storytelling continues to evolve.
Our new competition, Write-a-thon, harks back to Hemingway’s rule with a touch of modernity. We invite teenagers all over the world to tell a tale but keep it short. The ‘shortest’ and most engaging entries stand a chance to win exciting prizes!
Write-a-thon has been curated to inspire creative thought and expression. This ‘shortest’ story writing competition is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young storytellers. Students will get the chance to experiment with their writing and share their creations with a global community.
Imagine setting a world record (why not?), winning prizes worth INR 5000, and much more!
