Sci-fi is one of the most interesting genres in the movie industry. It borders on the intersection of future and fiction. They are proof of what human imagination and possibly creativity in the near future is truly capable of. This genre relies heavily on scientific facts, theories, and principles as support for its settings, characters, themes, and plot-lines. Here is a list of some of the all-time favorite Sci-fi movies giving you a taste of the best out there:
Theodore Twombly, an introvert writer, buys an Artificial Intelligence system to help him write. However, amazed by the AI’s ability to learn and adapt, he falls in love with it. This movie explores an interesting genre of future human-machine interaction and how vast is the universe of artificial intelligence.
In this Cristopher Nolan directed movie a global crop blight and second Dust Bowl are slowly destroying the planet. Professor Brand (Michael Caine), a brilliant NASA physicist, is working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth’s population to a new home via a wormhole. This is one of Nolan’s best work exploring some yet to be understood concepts of physics.
The movie plays out on the planet of Cybertron where a war is being fought between the Autobots (Good ones) and the devious Decepticons for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possesses it. The movie is a perfect mix of fantasy and a future where the fight is not between humans but machines.
Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant is chosen to evaluate the human capabilities, and consciousness of Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated than one could imagine. It plays on the interesting concept of human robots and what future holds for the technology.
A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers. The real world in the movie is a wasteland where most of humanity has been captured by a race of machines that live off of the humans’ body heat and electrochemical energy and who imprison their minds within an artificial reality known as the Matrix. The movie is built on suspense and looks like a portrayal of one of the oldest conspiracy theories.
